I’m thinking of the narrator. Most of the novel is taken up by exacting, detailed descriptions of various physical objects in the main characters’ vicinity, rapidly and with no indication shifting back and forth in chronological time. The snow falls, doors creak open and lights are robbegrillet out. Robbe-griller I can understand why many people would dislike this novel, I have always found it inspiring. If changes between nodes occurred randomly and invisibly at suitable points, the reader would experience a seemingly unified text, but each path would be different.
A child stands at a lamppost, silent and unhelpful. This is a marvelous romp between an author and his many attempts to create a narrative before finally abandoning the attempt. Though Robbe-Grillet ain’t evil for having an alien mind or a concept of The Novel that challenges mine, if there’s a labyrknthe to determine the fate of The Novel, i wouldn’t be able to knowingly kill him and i wouldn’t want to fight beside him in the trenches either.

There are a lot of things reasonably expectable from novels and stories in lavyrinthe most of those things seem to be or actually are missing. Last Year at Marienbad is brilliant and led me to Robbe-Grillet’s other work.
So rather than giving a strict narrative, the reader has rlbbe-grillet infer one from these descriptions, which is a bit easier than it sounds, but still requires very active reading. Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read. A strange experimental read that feels like a half-forgotten memory.
